1. What are you reading right now? Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
2. How many books have you read so far? I’ve finished 3 books, two of which I started today.
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? I plan to read Sex Criminals and Sharp Objects for the rest of the readathon.
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Not really, besides cooking.
5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? I’M ALREADY SLEEPY. Also I’m way more into reading this year than blogging, which I guess is fine.
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Same as last time, my home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I’m pretty excited about all of them, I picked out some spooky reads. Maybe the Shirley Jacksons.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Forget snacks, I’m making Pumpkin Chili for dinner and I am PUMPED!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I usually am pretty good at prepping and cleaning before this readathon and this week I just dropped the ball! I might need to listen to my audiobook and clean or I’m going to go crazy.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I woke up later than I usually do, writing this in hour 3, but I hope that means I can stay up later.
Ok, so I didn’t post yesterday, WHOOPS! We’ll get to the excuses in a minute but first, lets talk Day 2.
On day 2 I read a little bit of High Rise during my lunch break. The pages are really big on my Nook copy so it was only 3 or 4 pages in my 15 minutes of reading but it felt like so much more.
After work I read The Fireman pretty much all evening between episodes of Angel, because I am scum. I read 50 pages on Tuesday night before I passed out.
Yesterday, I read some more High Rise during lunch. I was able to read more than on day 2 but I still have quite a ways to go before I’m really in it..
After work I went shopping with a friend of mine. We were shopping for her outfit for her Bachelorette Party this weekend. I got back home late and by the time I ate dinner I was exhausted and ready for bed. I didn’t have it in me to post that mediocre reading last night. However I did tell myself I had to read before bed. I read 14 pages of The Fireman before passing out again.
So far I’ve read 19 pages of High Rise and 64 pages of The Fireman. I plan to read a lot more tonight and I got a fun book in the mail earlier this week that I might sneak into my TBR.
1 I worked, all day. And then after work I went to see my old high school’s marching band preview show. So I didn’t get much reading done but I did read 28 pages of The Fireman. So not a terrible day. Plus still 6 more days of reading!
I hope your day 1 was great as well, hopefully everyone else read more than I did. Let me know what you’re reading in the comments!
I can’t believe it’s already time for the next Bout of Books! This is my sign up and I will go over my TBR for the week, as you can see above.
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 22nd and runs through Sunday, August 28th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. This week I intend to focus on the books I’m currently reading and add it some fun graphic novel reading. I started The Fireman a couple weeks ago and I’m only about 30% through so far. I’m loving it so far so I expect to get a lot of that read this week. Similarly I have started High Rise this weekend. This I need to finish for book club either this week or next week. I’m not very far in this so this will be a lot of my reading this week as well.
I picked up Saga Vol 6 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8 Volume 1 a couple weeks ago and they seem like the perfect reads between my mandatory novels. I do have other books I can pick up IF I finish the books on this pile but I have a feeling this stack will keep me occupied. I will update daily and I look forward to see how everyone else does this week!
Well I got way more reading done today!
I started off the day by reading more of Remembrance. I got quite a bit read right away in the morning after I put up my blog post. I’m still not done with it but I’ll definitely finish it today. I am enjoying the adult themes in this compared to the rest of the series. It kind of reminds me of Veronica Mars but with ghosts which just makes it all the more fun. I might try rereading the original series if I can find my books. I forgot how much I loved this series.
Then my friend called me and asked if I wanted to go to Barnes and Noble with her so she could pick up a new book she ordered. Obviously I said yes. We spend most of the time looking at books, dropping off coffee to her fiance at work and grocery shopping. I picked up two books at BN, Hamilton: The Revolution and milk and honey. These are both books I have heard good things about and since I’ve been listening to Hamilton NON-STOP (haha get it?) in my car it felt fitting. My friend told me she meant to get me Hamilton: The Revolution for my birthday but they were all sold out.
After I got done with shopping I had Hebrew homework and a quiz to finish. Once all that was done I started reading through Hamilton: The Revolution. It’s such a fun read with so many interesting facts about the show. I didn’t realize there were so many fun jokes in the show, though some I had caught previously. He also talks about where historical facts come through in songs or where he butchered actual history. This book really makes the show even better and it goes through every song, not just the ones on the cast recording. Now I just need to bribe someone to get me to see it. I read 209 pages of this before moving on for the night.
I did pick up bits and pieces of milk and honey throughout the day as well. It’s mostly poetry with some prose but every page has little words on it. Nevertheless I’m not interested in rushing through this. I read the first part which is titled “the hurting” and pretty intense if you let it sink in. I’m enjoying this so far. I read 45 pages yesterday before I decided to return to Remembrance. I literally fell asleep reading it, even though again I wanted to stay up late reading. I probably fell asleep at 11 something and woke up again at 1:20am to find myself laying on my comforter with my computer still blaring music.
Today is Sunday, I’ve already read over 50 pages of a book and I expect to finish more stuff today so we’ll see how we finish this.
Books read: 1
Pages read: 616
Haha, whoops! To be frank, I haven’t had a lot of time to do much reading the last few days and even less time to post about it. I’ve only been reading Remembrance and I’m still not halfway through.
My sister flew into town for the week on Wednesday. So after work I went straight to see her and we had dinner with my mom and it was lovely and I read nothing until I got home and got ready for bed. On Day 3 I read 43 pages.
Thursday, I had Hebrew class after work. This is important because I still have homework and a quiz due on Saturday so I felt being a part of this class was important. After I worked on my homework for a while. Then I went swimming, which is my cardio exercise of choice these days. After a shower I got ready for bed and read before falling asleep. On Day 4 I read 40 pages.
Yesterday, after work I had game night with my friends. Every week, usually on Fridays, we get together and play Dungeons and Dragons. Overall we love it and I wouldn’t trade that time with them for anything. So, I did not get any reading done until I got home. I was pretty excited to read a bunch and stay up late since it’s the weekend. Unfortunately I got very sleepy fast and didn’t read much before I passed out. On Day 5 I read 25 pages.
Books read: 1
Pages read: 293
Today I need to finish my homework but I plan to get so much more reading done! It’s the weekend its time to read ALL THE THINGS.
So yesterday was not a great reading day.
Straight from work I went to a Chamber of Commerce mixer and didn’t get home until 6:30, which isn’t that late but it exhausted me and I just didn’t feel like reading much by then. Plus I have a translation assignment due for my Hebrew class on Saturday and I’ve been working a little bit on that every day. That’s the real priority this week, then make time for reading.
I did make myself read, I read 25 pages from Remembrance after the shower and before falling asleep. I’m pretty bummed that I haven’t done more reading but of course the second this week comes up I get super busy with other work.
To top it off, my sister is coming to visit today so we’ll see how much I’m able to get done while she’s here because I know I’ll just want to spend as much time with her as I can.
Totals so far are:
Books finished: 1
Pages read: 182
I’m already a book in so it’s good starting!
Unfortunately my 8-5 job gets in the way of a lot of reading time but I always take advantage of the lunch hour when readathons come up. Yesterday I started Lumberjanes Vol 3 during my lunch. I finished it after work and it was such a quick and fun read! I gave it an easy 5 stars and it was 112 pages.
After Lumberjanes, I immediately started Remembrance by Meg Cabot. This is the newest book in her YA Mediator series. The catch is, she jumped ahead and wrote an adult novel about her grown up characters, similar to what she did with Mia in The Princess Diaries. I used to love the Mediator series when I was younger so I jumped on the chance to read about those characters as adults. I only read 45 books before I fell asleep but I’m really excited for this adventure.
My Totals for the day are…
Books read: 1
Pages read: 157
I know what you’re thinking, “But Anna, this is just your Dewey’s TBR minus the books you read for Dewey’s.” YOU’RE RIGHT!
I already had a perfectly good pile of books and they are great for readathons. They’re all rather quick/consuming books and books I’ve been looking forward to.
Meanwhile I did read and complete The Handmaid’s Tale for #RYBSAT TBR, and I finished it today. Despite the fact that it was the only book I read for that readathon, I am so glad I did. I still think it was a successful week and I am looking forward to so much more reading this week. You can expect a book review sometime soon for The Handmaid’s Tale.
My goal for this week is to read 6 books, there are 6 books in the picture, so I think you can follow where I’m headed. I will update daily with books I’m reading from and page count. These may not be the only books I read from but we shall see what happens.
